Screendance Musings

These projects and exercises stem directly from classes with Katrina McPherson. A few have been screened, but I share these as early research into screendance. For full works, please email me.

There is much that I am exploring within screendance. I am intrigued by the representation of cultural movement forms in screendance, particularly as it has to do with abstraction. Fueled by an article titled "Does Abstraction belong to white people?" written by Miguel Gutierrez, I find myself contemplating how the cultural dances I grew up with are already abstract and wonder why their presence is small in the screendance field. I am currently working on a series, alongside other projects, that takes Filipino Folk Dances to tell stories, some related closely to their origins, and others related only by theme.
